Removing RB oil pans/sumps???

Just in the process of stripping one of my RB30's

 

What have you guys used to cut off the sump in the past, tried a Craft knife but didnt work?? That grey sealant is strong stuff!!

 

I remember reading something about this somewhere on here, but i've searched and cant find it?

I used a thin bladed regular screwdriver, and using a rubber mallet I gently tapped the screwdriver in at one end, just enough to get through to the inside of the pan, then I tapped on the side of the screwdriver pushing the blade forward, cutting the sealant. When you get far enough along, you can use the screwdriver to gently pry it down the rest of the way.

i used a strong knife i had, pretty mush same way Rumnhammer said.

 

then to get any small peices of gastket off that are left over, i used a razor blade.

I have used a blade from a power hack saw (about 1" wide 1/16"? or so thick) cut to about 8" long and sharpened like a chisel at one end, and grind the teeth off.

I have been using the same one for the last 20 years!!! I also be used as a gasket scraper (this was what I origionaly made it for).
