Guest rc240lt1
Hello all, I have a 97 Lt1 going into a 73 z and wouldlike to remove any item that is not required to make the engine run as in smog equipment, or anything else you can think of. What items shall i look into. Next question Pertains to the belt that drives everything. Im looking at removing power steering, and ac and possibility going electric water pump, Is there a belt out there that would allow me to run just the altenator and tensioner pulley What are you LT1 guys running as Raditors? that would fit in the 240z Thanks for the help Ron
Bartman
As far as removing emissions, most people remove the EGR. My system was running only idlers and the alternator, but in order to make it work the power steering pump was gutted to serve as an idler (I've since added the AC compressor back into the system). The stock water pump is driven off the cam, so getting an electric unit doesn't affect your belt routing; although it should give you a couple of ponies and will allow you to switch to a true double roller some time in the future (which I did as well). I'm running the JTR radiator with a Taurus fan, and it's working really well.
wheelman
Do a search for LT1 pulley assemblies on this site, the subject has been discussed several times with a few different solutions. I built an adapter plate with 2 idler pulleys to replace the PS and A/C and retained the stock tensioner. It's not possible to run just a tensioner and the alternator, at least not with the alternator in the stock location. Deleting the EGR and smog pump shouldn't cause you any problems but you'll need to program them out of the PCM. Your PCM will be an OBDII unit so will also want the second set of O2 sensors located after the CATS in the exhaust system. You could switch to an OBDI PCM, get rid of the second set of O2 sensors and then program out the EGR, SMOG pump, etc.. I also used the JTR radiator and a Taurus fan.
