Guest Mpower280
I am pondering the thought about installing a 240z front bumper on my 78 280z. Firstly, I need a bumper so if anyone has one or knows of one, please let me know. Secondly, whats required to mount it properly? And lastly, please tell me I dont need bumper struts. Guest 280ZForce
lol...not as hard as most make it out to be. mine is a 78 280z w/ 240z bumpers, well fiberglass ones atleast. i have a cracked fiberglass 1 that someone has just sent me an offer for, so if it drops through I'll let you know. you will need to fabricate two simple L brackets for the front, i forget on the rear and get a few misc nuts, bolts and washers. And no, you will not need those bumper struts. Toss those SOB out! Lastly, I weighed all the 280z bumper stuff from my 78 when I did the swap...bolts, bumper struts, end caps, bumpers, etc. Front and Back bumpers and hardware shaved off around i think it was 87 lbs! I'd have to double check...but yeah, what a weight saver compared to those fiberglass 240 bumpers.
OlderThanMe
that sounds right on the weight. My two early 260 bumpers with bumper shocks weigh a TON!!! The are all off except for the passenger rear bumper shock which looks like a pain. I can't imagine what the late 260 and 280 bumpers weigh
LS1 240Z
when you guys remove your struts what do you use to hold the bumpers onto the cars with then?
Guest 280ZForce
when you guys remove your struts what do you use to hold the bumpers onto the cars with then? you make 2 simple "L" shaped brackets that bolt to the car and the back of the bumper. then the ends of the bumper mount in existing holes where the old bumper mounted underneath the headlight bucket on the sides. jnjdragracing
Our Z-car is a 280z, I put the 240Z bumper and grill on it. It was not to hard at all. I did it myself, would of been easier if I has someone to help hold it in place. John
