Very new to cars in general.. Slight problem..

Well, I was experiencing problems a bit earlier where I really couldn't rev the engine that high.. in neutral it would hit about 4000 rpms and then it would go back down regardless of how hard I would push the gas..

In 1st gear, it would bring it down if I was approaching or near 3200 rpms, in 2nd gear, about 2600 and 3rd, about 2800.. 4th gear I could push back up to around 3200 rpms before it died down again and 5th, there weren't quite as much problems with the throttle..

When I had my previous car, I felt the same problems where it would begin to bog or kill the power while in gear, and pretty much, what I would have to do is push back in the clutch and try and re-catch the gear or so..

I later found out, that it was a dying/failed alternator.. So, I assumed that it was the same problem in the 280zx.. and I replaced the alternator.. However, it's still producing the same problem..

Anyone think they can help me with something like this.. or at least give a prognosis..?

Thank you ahead of time..

"Hey did you check the exhaust manifold for leaks?? The same thing happened on my Volvo 240 Turbo and it confused everbody I talked to until I heard a slight hissing sound. It ended up a hairline crack when the castiron was cold but when the exhaust manifold warmed up the crack got bigger. With a exhaust leak before the turbo, the turbo cannot build pressure to turn the turbine and will not be able to boost good. And the engine will not rev past a point. It sucked that my top speed was 35 on the highway floored in 5th gear

Hope this helps, Mark"

I was informed of this when I first purchased the car.. damn it.. I'm a moron!!

(Alright.. time to try and take it to the shop to get the exhaust manifold repaired..)
