pparaska
I mounted mine, using a flat bracket that I bolted to the Arizona Z brake kit bracket. Note that I'm not real happy with how the cable routes with this setup. The cable needs several ties, springs, etc. to keep it out of the way of the subframe, axle, etc. I remember Hoover put his at about 10 o'clock on the left side, 2 o'clock on the right side of the car. Not sure how the cable routing went for that. Pics of my setup are at: http://members.home.net/pparaska/brakemods.htm Hope that helps,
Guest scca
did you make that flat bracket? they are a lot easier to work with than the curved wilwood ones....
TimZ
I followed Pete's lead, and mounted mine in a similar fashion, except I had my bracket welded flush at the bottom of the existing one. I also have the Arizona Z brake setup (sorry Mike , but it's been on there for about 12 years - otherwise, I'd use yours ). I agree with Pete about the cable routing being less than ideal - it has to turn a pretty sharp corner to get oriented properly for the spot caliper's lever, and it does need a fair amount of 'guidance' to keep it from interfering with some of the rotating bits. My biggest fear is that because of the bend it has to take near the caliper, the cable makes contact with the frame before the suspension is bottomed. I am afriad that this is going to lower the life expectancy of the cable - I have been keeping an eye on this, and so far, so good. I tried test mounting the caliper in several other orientations, and maybe I'm mot imaginative enough, but I couldn't find an orientation that gave a better cable routing. pparaska
I had a machinist buddy make that - took several months to get it back . TimZ, I would buy scca-Mike's stuff too, but I got the complete Wilwood setup with only a few thousand miles on it from Jim Biondo for half the price of new. Tough deal to beat. I think a flat bracket welded to the Arizona Z bracket like TimZ did is a better method. But I was REALLY lazy and didn't want to pull the halfshafts out and was looking for a bolt on solution. I am working on a design for a limiter for the cable - to keep it from rubbing on the frame rail. But the car is in paint jail, so I can't do much now. Guest scca
Pete/Tim. either of you have a drawing of the bracket you used? i would prefer to use steel and weld on as tim did... that would be faster .. if either has a drawing i can take it and have it CNC cut out of 3/8" plate.. save lots of time and then i can weld it onto the rear caliper brackets that are steel too...
