hey, my z blew a wheel cylender a few days back, and the tropical storm came through also, so the z sat a few days in the driveway, just got the brakes done today and for some reason the battery died (maybe i left something on i dunno...) but at idle the alternator stays at about 13 with full a/c and when you turn the a/c off the volts just completely top out past 16, and also go up all the way when you drive it. charge light is off. it has a new alternator with maybe 100 miles thats been working fine. could the moisture have messed anything up? or maybe its been like that and i havent noticed.

its a 76, with the n/a motor turbod.

thanks guys

If you are getting that voltage, then your new alternator is working fine. How old is your battery?

Do you have a multimeter that can measure DC amps? Disconnect the battery + cable and connect the multimeter between the cable and the + terminal of the battery when every thing is off in the car. You shouldn't see very much current. Anything more than 100mA would certainly cause the battery to go dead in a few days. If it is drawing more than 100mA, pull each fuse from the fuse box one at a time until you see the current drop. This is the circuit that has the problem.

Let me know how you make out.

for some reason it decided to go back to normal today, i was just driving around and it stayed at about 14 the whole time, weird, i think somthing might be wrong with the guage itself because i think i would have had some serious problems if the charging voltage REALLY maxed the meter out (i guess it would be like near 20)
