Hehehh...got my Energy Suspension kit the day before yesterday...finally! Got started the next day. Changed rack mounts, steering coupler, and front sway bar endlinks...took about 4 hours... icon_sad.gif probably coulda done it quicker, but had to stop and drink lots of water...arizona can be such a pain...so anyways, phase 1 of my plans are underway...anyone wanna give me some tips on removing older bushings? Or should i just get em pressed out? Mebbie after i get this done, i can get my driveshaft rebuilt, get some tires, get some brakes, and finally start building my V8....anyone do "The Small Cheverolet Should Have Built" Was wondering about using the 300 straight sixes rods in a 350....

It might be faster if you just get the bushings pressed out. Weight out the cost factor (if it's cheap & fast, no worries), otherwise, there is always Harbor Freight Tools or Northern Auto Parts, etc, for a press.

6 inch rods have a following...at least from me anyway. Next engine I build will probably have those tall rods: 6+ inches. Should be great. BTW that 350 engine requires a 400 block--good luck finding a good one--they are getting harder and harder to find.

I just got mine out with a blowtorch. I don't remember if I took out the center sleeve or not. Just heat up the outer surface until it is smoking hot and all at once the outer surface of the rubber melts out pops the rubber and leaves a pretty clean hole.

Hope this helps.

As a side note to a discussion we had recently about the 377 Chev, I ran across a link just the other day that had a 377 Chevy with a sheetmetal tunnel ram, dry sump and undisclosed internals that was putting out 680hp at (get this) 9000 RPM! icon_eek.gif

I'd sure like to hear what a SBC sounds like at that RPM, I bet its a banshee.

Regards,

I burned out my bushings with a torch, then slit the metal outer with a hacksaw, and 'peeled' it out of the hole. Its not something I'd pay to have someone else do. Nothing hard about it except not to gag on the smell of burning rubber.

Which bushings? For the rear I followed what Drax did but before you get that far you have to get the suspension pins out. THAT is the PITA, once you've done that getting the bushings out of the rear arms is a walk in the park! Search here for tips on the pins.... icon_rolleyes.gif
