Guest Anonymous
Ok....got a slight problem...I've got a wheel shake going on...steering wheel that is...seems to be rather under control at lower speeds, and kinda comes and goes above 40 or so...what could this be? Posted this message on Zcar.com awhile ago, but I've already done everything they've asked, but to no avail....all of the rubber in the front end has been replaced with poly, with the exception of the motor mounts, which are new stock replacement....(anyone know if anyone makes a poly one) Tires are kinda old, car has been sitting for a while, since I've owned it, and since before I bought it... fl327
hey theres nothing wrong with being an inliner, except when you get stuck at a red light with a tall guy in a red 240 with a gigantic grin on his face, j/k (kinda) how are the shocks? and how much tread left on those front tires??? i rotated tires once when i should not have (rears were so bald that steel threads were showing) and it had the bumpsteer from hell.. you say the tires are kinda old, that may be the reason. hope this helps Leonard "posi rear, have no fear, your whole block has just been served"
Guest Anonymous
I'd replace the tires, or at least have them balanced, although you say it comes and goes which usually isn't related to balance unless its at a certain speed. Is the steering doing this after bumps? If so that would be rather normal because of the bumpsteer in the stock suspension (it can be reduced check the message archives for how, I'd try searching for bumpsteer). Just a few ideas. Guest Anonymous
hmmm...food for thought...thanks bunches! Helps a lot! New tires are on the way, hopefully next paycheck....how's everyone's feelings for BFG Comp T/A's for a decent street tire?
DavyZ
Nothing wrong with those tires for street use. You really should have the front end aligned when you get the new tires on. Your tires will live longer and it may actually help (some of) your problem. Tire balance is usually the main culprit, and after having been worn a bit in an uneven manner, the problems just seem to be compounded--and you even mentioned that they had sat a while in one place! If you ever do have to let your car sit in one place for an extended period of time, try filling the tires with air to a higher pressure, like 40lbs or so, that helped the cars we had in storage at the dealership--keeps the tires from getting a "flat spot" when just sitting. Guest Anonymous
I found that after new tires and alignment, ball joints, and inner and outer tie rod ends made a big difference. Also, thew steering rack bushings. I did a write-up on the rack bushing rebuild - www.zhome.com - if you're interested.
Guest Anonymous
ok, anyone got nissan parts numbers for outer and inner tie rods? Or would an aftermarket supplier be as good? Would rather use aftermarket...100 bucks for a ball joint at nissan, 30 at autozone...also, is there anyone in the Phoenix Arizona area, prefer closer to tempe or mesa...that could meet me, drive my car, and tell me what i need to fix? I'm still a little wet behind the ears when it comes to suspension, only thing's I've ever really done in the past were all small block build ups... Guest Anonymous
I AM A MECHANIC GOD!!! Well, maybe not, but i rotated my rather new kelly chargers to the front, and tossed the dry rotted goodyears on the back, and hey! Steering wheel no longer shimmys!!! Yippie! I'm so happy! I can actually drive the car now. No longer dives to the left or right under braking anymore either....
