Guest KraZ4spd
I was removing some of the old pieces from yhe engine compartment when I found RUST! It is about 2in. up from the bottom of the strut tower seam. This is not good. I managed to grind most of it out, but now I have two hloes that are about 1.5in. in diameter. I was going to weld a piece of sheet metal to each side of the holes. Any other suggestions. How good is Por15?

Drax240z
POR-15 is awesome stuff. I've used it a lot on my car, and its TOUGH. I found it best applied to a rough (sandblasted in my case) surface. If its on bare metal, rough it up with some 80 grit sandpaper or something similar. Remember though, POR-15 is quite thin, and it will not fill holes overly well. Your plan to weld metal to both sides is a good solution. Just make sure that your welds are water tight from the start, and then POR-15 it. If water were to get between those plates it would rust out very quickly again.
Guest V8wannabe
Be careful welding a sheet to BOTH sides, sounds like a nice little pocket to collect moisture. I cut and sandblasted out the rust, cut cardboard templates and then sheet metal 1/4 inch larger. I welded this to the outside (wanted to hide it with undercoating)then welded the inside, ground it smooth and used a paintable joint sealer. No personal experience with POR15 but everything I ever heard/read was positive. Have fun!!
