BLKMGK
Umm, be aware that ordering them "new" isn't all it's cracked up to be. Last I'd heard it was a nationwide backorder item awaiting shipment from Japan - ETA "unknown". Some folks HAVE managed to get them, others haven't. This is why Mike and Ross are going to the trouble to make these brackets. As to which is the best rotor and caliper - I didn't use that setup and if you're too busy to search then I probably am too You'll probably use something like a 240SX (200SX maybe?) caliper or ZX caliper along with a 300ZX rotor. Most likely a solid rotor and probably about 11 inches around. The archives have the exact information as do some member's WEB pages last I searched. ZCar's archives have the information too including the part # for that bracket I think. Ross, you and Mike any further along with that bracket? Guest Anonymous
11" wow sounds great, what are you doing for front brakes?
jeromio
The standard Maxima rear brake swap uses 280ZX or 280ZX turbo calipers and rotors. The calipers are switched side to side (left on right, right on left). If you're doing this, my advice is to not bother with used calipers except perhaps as cores for new or rebuilt ones. Modern Motorsports Ltd
" Some folks HAVE managed to get them, others haven't. This is why Mike and Ross are going to the trouble to make these brackets.....Ross, you and Mike any further along with that bracket? Yes, we're further along. Details with drawings/formats/machining details have delayed the prototype which will hopefully be produced within 10 days depending on how some current drawing details work out. These delays haven't been too upsetting though as our committments have slowed right down at the mid-20 mark so at some point Mike & I will have to decide how much we want to finance this effort to ensure that it does go ahead. We'd aimed for 50 pairs and even getting a lot closer to 40 from our current mid 20 mark would really help matters. Details here under products-rear disk cnc bracket Modern Motorsports Ltd. quick details: 88-94 240sx calipers Z31 11-3/8's rotors site details also list some pros/cons of using maxima 10" 280zx calipers vs. our setup (Note to newbies, this project started as a total need for a rear disk solution was apparently needed after existing 'solutions' were either quit (JCR) or NLA (maxima brackets).) -we're not reproducing maxima brackets, that'd be easier.....we're making unique cnc brackets (model on web to be viewed) which have much improved ebrake cable geometry, braking leverage, and overall function. Thanks to the 20+ already paid up and committed, we're working thru marketing etc as time permits to increase those numbers and make the product available ASAP. If you know anyone that could be interested please pass the word.
Dan Baldwin
Here's what I did: Maxima brackets '82-'83 calipers and rotors (new or COMPLETE rebuilt calipers, some rebuilts are only the hydraulic portion, no new sliders) '81 master cylinder (I tried to make an '82-'83 work and messed up a master and a booster) '73+ booster (replacing my smaller '71) 280ZX proportioning valve (which I located directly above the warning light assembly, next to the m.c.. Did away with the old prop valve). I *think* this should keep me at close to reasonable front/rear bias. I've got different c.f. pads for the rear to fine-tune. Seemed to work fine on the road and at the Glen, but I lost it in turn 6 (no fault of the brakes) and haven't gotten the car back from the body shop. It'll be ready for Lime Rock on Nov. 19 and 20, though.
73BOTIZ
I have made two pair of caliper brackets on my cnc machine out of 4140 steel. One pair is on my car, and alsil has a pair on his car. They are copies of the Maxima brackets. If someone is in dire need, I would be able to make them. They would use 82-83 calipers and rotors. I am not in the aftermarket buisness and only make these to help fellow Zer's. It would cost about $75.00 a pair. Mike D.
Guest Anonymous
Is the bolt spacing different on '79-'81ZXs or are they just bulkier?
CruxGNZ
73BOTIZ, where were you about five months ago? I got the Maxima brackets from my local dealer for $54.33 each (could have got them cheaper if I told them I was in a club of some sort). Your price is very nice. By the way the dealer that I got them from said that there is no shortage on the "adapter caliper" (Maxima) brackets. I have refered a few people to this dealership with the same results as I. They have a bunch of them, but I will not say where now, because there are a few guys on here that are trying to make an honest buck. !M!
