PurpleDinosaur
O.K. So i race this little truck with an intercooled vg30et at 10 psi of boost. I run the exhaust wide open, nothing but the elbow with a piece of exhaust pipe running behind the driverside front wheel(to keep the excess heat off the tranny). Would it run faster with some type of exhaust system, will it hurt the engine in the long run running it like this? Any help will be appreciated. Thanx. http://home.comcast.net/~savage1023/ http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2358115
NissanSportMag(Z31)
I don't think you're doing any harm to the motor with just an open dump. As long as you're expelling the exhaust gases away from the motor and engine bay, you should be fine.
mtcookson
You should actually have quicker spooling and a little more power with a short exhaust like that on a turbo setup. Heck, there's even a very slight chance that reliability could be better due to reduce backpressure... but I couldn't back that one up. Just an interesting thought. If you do any street driving and want a quiet setup you can do a regular exhaust and have a cutout for racing.
