Guest Anonymous
I have just received my cooling fan I ordered from Summit, (flex-a-lite Twin Scirocco). Well the mounting brackets fit perfect IF I can go with self taping scews into the side tanks of the rad. What do you all think, do you think it would leak coolant if I did this? Thanks Tom ------------------ 87 RxV8/TurboII/2+2 Chevy 350/390hp, T-5(B&M shortthrow)
Mike kZ
Your kidding right? Yes it would definetly leak! Don't forget the cooling system is under pressure, any small leak will stream out with force. ------------------ http://members.tripod.com/~SnowSurfer/mikekz1.html
383 240z
Huge leak dont do it I have the flex-a-lite 150 and I mounted it with these cool zip tie type mounts that worked great on my 87 RX-7 that I autocross regulary with no problems ------------------ rx7260z@yahoo.com Speed Power Performance& Style. Guest kc6wfs
Ya don't drill anything into the tanks. You will regret it. Look at the pics of my fans I put on. Look how it's mounted. You could do the same for about 10.00 in hardware. Also I would not use the plastic through the rad holders. The torque from the fan will cause leaks over time. http://www.geocities.com/kc6wfs/240z.html ------------------ www.geocities.com/kc6wfs/240z.html www.NitroPhotos.com
Guest Anonymous
Thanks for the advice. I was also thinking about using zip ties also, I was just concerned with the heat that comes of off the rad (would it melt the ties?). Tom
DavyZ
No, the ties won't melt... Mounting a radiator is all about brackets and such that don't connect via screws or whatnot into the tanks. Go to a wrecking yard and see how most cars mount the radiators. Then make an informed decision and go for it!
Guest Anonymous
Thanks I'm going to go with the zip ties. ------------------ 87 RxV8/TurboII/2+2 Chevy 350/390hp, T-5(B&M shortthrow)
383 240z
I did not use regular zip ties the ones I got are from hayden they are straight with quarter sized lockwashers and foam pads for between the fan and fins. They were sold with the add on transmission coolers in the local discount auto parts store. ------------------ rx7260z@yahoo.com Speed Power Performance& Style. What else is there? Guest Anonymous
I am concerned that this may not be enough fan for you. Is this a street car? Those fans are intended for drag race use. Bring it to temp. run it then shut it down.
Guest Anonymous
It is my daily driver but I am also going to drag it. You don't think it will keep me cool? Guest Anonymous
It will depend on you weather, but I really think you'll have problems. I mentioned your post to a friend of mine and before I could finish he said that you'll have cooling problems. This really isn't the fan for you. Summit has a very good return policy, and I would look at the FLX-210 if you have the room. It won't flow quite as much as the 150, but it covers more surface area and will cool more thoroughly. Yes, they are a lot more money. If you decide to return the fan and have any problems E-Mail me personally and I'll see if I can help. No Promises
Guest Anonymous
The 210 is the first one I bought but it was to big, to wide and the 150 is to thick. **** now I don't know what to use. Any other suggestions? Thanks Tom ------------------ 87 RxV8/TurboII/2+2 Chevy 350/390hp, T-5(B&M shortthrow)
Guest Anonymous
My next choice would be the DER-16516 It flows 1900 CFM. There are some very good things being said about a Ferd Taurus 2 spd fan on the Ferd swap section. I really like what I see and hear about them. Guest Anonymous
I'm only working with 22inch wide and about 3inch thick, the scirocco fan is rated at 1800 cfm and it fits perfect on my rad. I wonder what the messurements on the tarus fan are? What if I were to mount a fan in front of the rad(more room)? Would it be to restricted? Does anyone know how much air approximately is moved by a 15inch pulley driven fan at idle? This would give me a good idea what type fan would work. Guest Anonymous
I don't know the CFM's of OE fans but they are far more than any electrical. Placing a fan on the front is OK but not nearly as efficient as placing it on the back side. Can you get a thicker fan if you offset it? Place the fan to the right or left of center.
