V8_DatZun
I am in the process of trying to get together a 280zx sbc conversion kit for all the zx guys out there. Motor mounts, tranny mount, optional headers, and all nuts/bolts necessary (grade 8). I have the kit installed on my car right now (a design that i had made before the msa or jtr kit even came out only just now got around to using it as i JUST got my engine complete) The kit will use the stock nissan mounting points, with 0 setback position (located directly over the stock mounting points) up to 1 1/2" setback. motor mounts are planned to be made from aluminum, while the tranny mount possibly galvanized. the headers will fit without any modification. after that comment. I need to know how many people are intrested in the headers, because i am getting them custom made. Once i know a number of people i can then get you guys a price on the headers. The kit is still in the planning stages, as i am checking around on prices to have them made. Once prices are found out i will post them here. Please reply with header request ONLY. i am not taking orders for the kit or the headers, just need to know how many people are intrested in the headers, and stating that i am working on the kits. more parts for the zx will follow if this is a success, including eventual: radiator, and brackets, driveshaft, and possibly some body parts after that. So, who's intrested in some headers for the 280zx?
280zwitha383
I ASSume you're talking about shorty headers. If they're long tube I would be really interested. If they're shorty headers they would have to be cheaper than JTR's for me to bat an eye because they are a pretty good header in my opinion. JTR only sells 1 5/8 primary so a 1 3/4 would be a definite advantage also. Keep us posted.
dustin280zx
if there full length 1 3/4 primaries and reasonable i'm up for it also may be interested in the whole kit.
80LS1T
I might be interested in a 1.75" header shorty or longtube. What kind of power steering system will these headers fit on though? It would be nice if it was for the gear box type! JTR already makes the ones that fit the rack and pinion type. Guy
Paz8
Your sort of reinventing the wheel here, JTR already sells everything for the ZX conversion, and it is very good quality stuff. The shortie headers work with the rack steering and are made by Sanderson, they have been making headers for a very long time. Long tube headers would be nice if you plan on running your ZX wide open most of the time (drag car) but your going to run into ground clearence issues with full lenght headers on a street car. You also mentioned zero set back engine position a few times, IMO if you have full length custom headers made (I hope you have a fat wallet) the headers may or may not fit with the engine in the set back position which most people opt to do. V8_DatZun
i agree sanderson is good... im working on a deal through hedman. we're still working out the details, but if only 3 people have comments, and they are "IFie" then im not going to do it... also i mentioned 0 setback to 1 1/2 possibly 2" setback.. as i said still havent worked out the details... and the kit w/o headers would (if my numbers are correct) be a GOOD bit cheaper than jtr or msa... but if no intrest in it then im not wasting my time or money to get it started. it works great on my car and thats how it will stay. if anyone is intrested in the kit just PM me and we'll talk. 80LS1T
I don't think there is a huge market for motor mounts because JTR and MSA both have them. JTR already makes the headers for the rack and pinion set up so that will be hard to sell too. If you came up with a set of headers for the big gear box type steering I think they would sell. I don't know how many times I've told people that there isn't a header that will just bolt up on the drivers side. If you had a set of 1.75" shorty headers made for this steering system I think you could sell a few sets for sure. Guy
