Mike Mileski
How do I make sure I'm buying the correct viscous limited slip R230 if its off the car and sitting on the shelf at the junkyard? The guy is telling me it came out of a '91 300ZX Twin Turbo but is there any ID markings on it that would differentiate it from a standard, non-viscous R230? Any help would be appreciated. Guest Anonymous
If its an R230 it shaould be a VLSD. Also has a sticker on the aluminum finned rear cover that says viscous lsd. If all else fails turn one out put shaft, the other should move in the same direction. Grab both out put shafts, turn one foward the other toward the rear, should move in oposite directions with a great deal of effort.
BLKMGK
I'm not sure a viscous LSD can be checked that easily - it doesn't act like a clutch LSD. On th eother hand - if it's an R230 I believe it'll be LSD no matter what. All of th elate Zs has LSD even the NA units. Gear ratios varied but th eLSD was there if I've been told correctly...
