Guest Zpeed
I cut my friends springs yesterday (not a Zed), only 1 coil and its a bit more bumpyerbut its alot lower. and it fitted right back in perfectly/ I know that cutting springs is Supposedly bad, cause it stuffs up stuff, but i want my Z to be a bit lower, so cutting 1 coil off each corner would lower it perfectly for me, I'd do it the proper way (eg coil over setup)but on a budget right now, and want my car to look better, but not to sure of the side effects, I'll only cut 1 coil so its not like it will pop out, and its a daily driven car with stock suspension. Guest timhypo
I've cut lots of springs in my day, in high school the scam was we'd charge some rice-boy (who had not yet been named that) $100 to lower their car. We'd lop off a coil or two and loosen the torion bar in some cases and make $50 an hour for our trouble. The big thing is NOT to use a torch as this destroys the heat-treating on a spring. If you really want your car to handle, though, you're gonna have to pony-up for stiffer springs, as cutting springs typically only lowers the car and makes it ride crappy. If you get an alignment right after you do it, I've seen cars not have any adverse side effects other than the aforementioned decline in ride quality. johnc
Cutting springs also stiffens them. The number of free coils is one of the factors in calculating the spring rate.
Guest Zpeed
Yer i do it with a angle grinder, so your saying that it will cause no damage to the actaul car, cept for ride quality, which is already bad cause roads here are bumpy as... haha i'll do it this week... haha...
