Nismo280zEd
I was under the impression that the HEI modules produce ALOT of heat. On the back of my 8 pin module there is a flat metal surface, i'm assuming this needs to be mounted to a metal as a heatsink with some thermal paste or something of that nature. Anybody have any pics of mounting locations, or how you did your HEI ignition? I'm using it for my megasquirt on my I6 not V8 -Ed
proxlamus©
Yes sir! I have my 4 pin HEI unit mounted on a heat sync from a computer.. you can find them at radio shack. I have some heat sync compound between the HEI unit and the heatsync.
Nismo280zEd
Where did you mount yours? I want to try to keep it away from water. Maybe passenger side would have cooler temps as well. I guess I could mount it inside the car.
mario_82_ZXT
See what's weird is I have mine mounted to a metal plate near where the OEM coil used to go (it has an MSD Blaster on it now I think...). Never had a problem until it came loose and shorted out (like a week after it happened to you Prox haha). Put it back on with some thermal paste (and lock washers) and no problems at all. It doesn't get that warm in Flagstaff though, maybe here in Tucson I'll have to mount it on a heatsink... Mario
