Guest Anonymous
Hey, I dropped in the 4-piston fronts with 300ZX rotors (Kit from Mikelly) in my 77' 280Z. Oh, my 79' 280ZX rotors in the rear work great!! The problem is at 65-75 mph, the front shimmys slightly. At low speeds (15-35mph) it makes a tapping noice that goes away when you hit the brakes. It has 1/4 spacers and longer studs in the front because the aftermarket steel rims would not fit otherwise. When I first drove it, the tires alomst flew off because I didn't torque them , I'm glad I lived to laugh about that. Well, it still shimmy's at those speeds. I'm thinking because the bearings are original (and sloopy) they would be the problem with the shimmy and the rotors have not been turned so they might be the problem with the tapping. Any other suggestions or is this what you all think too? I'm planning to replace and true everything this weekend. Thankx, Nic
fl327
check wheel bearings, could be shakin around see if the longer wheel studs are seated right see if a retainer spring on those four piston brakes is loose or fallin out tires balanced right? shimmy shimmy cocopop
Guest Anonymous
I'm think'n the same thing. I miss Maui.... All those people gett'n laid. Any suggestions on what brand of bearing to go with? Or just the typical Auto Zone? I have a freind that gets me deals (like $1.99 for everything) so I'm wanting to lean towards Auto Zone stuff. Also, what is the typical offset for the Z? I'm pricing new rims and I don't know what would fit. I'm leaning towards a 16x7 or 8. Nic
Guest Anonymous
I'm happy. Swapped out the bearings and turned all four rotors (finally). I ran into some problems with the remounting of the calipers in the front (toyota 4's) and rear (79' ZX), but it was easy to fix. No more shaking on the way-way. Next will be the completion of the coilovers. This car is like Frankenstien. 83' T5, 280Z front struts, 240Z rear struts, toyo brakes in the front w/ 300ZX rotors, 79' calips and rotors in the rear. Cutom drive shaft, R200 from 2+2 ZX, short ram tube w/ 300ZX K&N (don't ask how I made it)... to much to list. And all this on a 77' 280Z Nic
