Struts and Springs install/cost?

Hey guys I own a 1971 240 scarab. The springs and struts were if Im not mistaken all part of the conversion. The springs in the back are ok, a little scraping but could be due to 235/60-15's out back on her. The front is just unreal/too darn stiff. Could jar your kidneys loose. The springs are not colapsed as the car sits pretty high up front.

Im looking at replacing springs and struts well Im at it. I do so street draging, nothing too twisty so I just want to install good springs and struts. What would you recommend and should I do them myself..I have a Harbor Freight spring compressor. Also were can I pick up springs and struts at an affordable price. Anyone made any purchases lately if so what did you pay?

Thanks in advance!! Zfan..Mike 2thumbs.gif

It's all about money. For a few hundred bucks you can run $25 strut inserts and Eibach Euro Springs. With a Scarab I would run Euro over the Pro Series. Kits run around $200-400.

The best way to run is with a coil-over system (which I have). It allows you to run with a front rake, or slammed to the ground! The list of spring rates and sizes are wide open with Coil-overs where as the spring kits are only made by two or three companies. With the coil overs you can run stock height and slightly stiffer springs.

Talk to Mike (scca) about prices for the coil kits, they are almost the same price as the spring kit drop-ins so they cost should not be that diffrent.

If you want install yourself Great!. I always do my own work. If you need tips just shoot me an e-mail: nbucholz@imageworksarch.com

Alsi sounds like the ront/rear springs may have been put in backwards...

I've seen it happen a couple of times. The taller springs go on the rear. If the person who installed the springs didn't pay attention, the springs could have been put up front (thinking that the longer springs support more weight).

Just my $.02
