gretchen/jason Posted April 8, 2007 Share Posted April 8, 2007 So im looking through the racing catalogs summit and such and see a tire size i like 275-60-15 with a tread width of 10 inches compared to what i have now of tread width of 8 inches . Problem is when i go to say good year or firestone they have that tire size but the tread width is like 7.5 to 8 inches instead of 10 inches . Am i missing something here or maybe is the catalog wrong . Or does it depend on the type of tire . The 275 just refers to the tire at it's widest point, which is not necessarily the tread. If you've got a tire you want in summit's catalog, try looking for the exact same tire from one of your suppliers, it should be the same. I also work in a parts department at a dealership, and I have been able to find online places that sell name brand tires cheaper than I'm able to get them through my local supplier. Most times you are buying through a middle man anyway, and then you still have to mark it up to sell it to the end customer. I usually have my co-workers that need tires put them on a cash ticket with my vendor, thus selling them at cost so that I don't have to mark them up the 10% over cost employee price. This keeps my retention up at the end of the month and saves the buyer a bit as well. www.edgeracing.com had some pretty cheap tires in the sizes I wanted, but after shipping it came out to about the same.
