Wheel question...

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the back spacing on 280zx 6 spoke wheels? Im planin on up grading to 15X10s and want to know the back spacing to ensure my wheels do not hit suspension... and i would also like to know would anyone have an idea on what tire size that would be? i do not want to strech my wheels but would like to know what size would fit right and i would like the side walls to be a little beefy, so i can kinda close the gap from wheel to fender...

Are you running the ZX wheels on an S30, or an S130? S30 maximum backspacing is 4.5" or so, I've never measured an S130, it may be more, less, or the same...A 15X10" wheel on an S30 would need to be -25 or -26 offset to clear properly. I suspect it may be the same on an S130, but I don't want to say definitively since I don't know for sure.

For the record, tire compound will most likely give you a higher return on your investment than wider tires will. That being said, 10" is most likely too wide to not need a flare. On my S30, I've got a 255/40R17 on the back on an 8" wide wheel. These wheels use spacers, but the corrected offset is 0 (giving them 4.5" of backspace). That tire visibly sticks out, but not enough to necessitate a ZG style flare. Here is an Old pic, but you can kind of see what I'm talking about:

I wish I could be more help with the S130 dimensions, but I've never owned one, and haven't had to deal with it. The limiting factor on the early cars is the strut housings, the wheel will rub on that if you have too much backspacing. I know that coilovers will change that spacing, but I don't know by how much since I don't have those either...
