auxilary
TO rephrase the question with more detail... i have the toyota 4x4 wide calipers with z31 rotors and spacers and earl stainless steel braided brake lines. The question is... do I really need to bend the stock S shaped solid line, or can I just get a solid joint (2 threads on it to link the caliper and SS line) and run straight to the SS line? I examined the turn radius with just the SS line attached, it doesn't make a significant amount of difference, if anything, it acts better throughout suspension travel as far as i can see. Bending the line without a tool is a PITA, and I'm afraid of putting anymore pressure on the sucker, as it might break. Any reason why I haven't read of people doing what I'm considering doing? I don't see any drawbacks. DavyZ was with me, checked it out, and he is wondering the same thing. ideas?
Modern Motorsports Ltd
Solid lines need to be fixed at start and finish points or they'll be subject to vibration/fatique. Simple setup is to go straight from caliper to your fenderwell with a single SS braided/flexible line IMO. Either custom or a proper length Goodridge line with appropriate adaptors on either end (goodridge or aeroquip adaptors, I've had fine luck with both when I wasn't patient for a custom ss line to show up). katman
Ross sorta touched on this, but the reason you would like the flex line to go to the strut is because it gets it closer to the center of rotation so it isn't swinging through such a big arc every time you turn the wheel. Fatigue will occur later rather than sooner. Also, it keeps it further away from potential contact with the tire...
auxilary
well, i wound up bending my own brake lines from scratch parts I bought at Kragen autoparts. Took me about an hour to get the fit exactly right, and I went through about 2 trial lines though.
