Blong'sZ
I was wondering if anyone would suggest using the Trick Flow LT1 heads. Here are the specs: Combustion Chamber = 62cc Intake Port Volume = 195cc Exhuast Port Volume = 72cc Valve Sizes = 2.02" (IN) 1.60" (EX) Valve Springs = 1.460" dual springs I actually got them already and am in the process of just doing some pocket porting and cleaning some of the castings. These heads will be mated on an all forged internal 383 stroker bottom end around 10 to 1 compression ratio, I think, but pistons are dish for sure. I was hoping to get into the 400+hp range to the wheels and possibly thinking of a twin turbo setup in the future. I guess first question is what you guys think of these heads? Are my hp range realistic with these parts? Any good cam suggestion?
piston
is this a drag car? daily driven? thats a pretty decent hp goal...with those heads and the forged 383 bottom end, 400 should be a good number to look forward to. usually i see high horses on higher compression instead of 62cc with 10 to 1 pistons, not saying its not possible but i usually see 11 and up compression. is this an older lt1 or newer fuel injected lt1? with 400hp under the hood, the turbos are usless on the streets and you will get no traction at all when it hits boost. your car will go side ways and tired will spin loose and out of control. with my lt1, its suicide on a street drag. thats my thought...ill like to check it out if you dont mind. im located in sactown also. gives me a chance to meet a hybrid z in town...you can also check my ride out. by the way, with 400hp in the z, you wouldnt want anymore horse power, it becomes useless...i thought about doing a single turbo on my lt1, after driving it full throttle, it does not need turbo for sure. but im still looking forward to turbo it later in time only for show. but seriously, it will do backflips, and front flips everytime you feed it boost. i just cant imagine... 280zwitha383
Please build your twin turbo LT1. Maybe then you will have "too much power". I'm sure you have seen the members on here who are utilizing just a few hundred whp over 400 on the street no less. Your goal borders on high IMO. A fairly huge cam is in order. Keep us updated and welcome to the board.
Blong'sZ
Thanks for the replies. Well, my main goal is to achieve the 400+whp and it sounds like i may be able to do that with my combo's, I will be happy with whatever I get a the end I am sure. The motor came from a 95 camero and I am going to be running the paineless harness with a T56 transmission. The block has been bored 40 over, running 6" I-beams and I went with forge because I wanted a rock solid bottom end. Block is clearanced, but just need cam for clearancing. Thanks again and I will keep everyone updated.
280zwitha383
I'm sure you paid a pretty penny for your forged pistons which I assume you know are too high compression for almost any boost. So if you do boost you will have to try and resell the pistons or use them for something else and buy lower compression (forged would be best) pistons. I would have probably already experimented with a small single turbo I have if it weren't for my $400+ pistons which is kind of a bummer IMO.
