Guest TAlchemist
well i am agin going at my project car and things are going fine. i droped the front suspension and removed the driverside from the control arm but the last bolt on the passenger side wont go. i have ripped 2 impact sockets apart getting it off with my impact wrench but it wont go. i tried heating it and no good. i got a breaker bar and it broke my last socket for that size so i need a new one...... any advice? i am stripping, painting, and new bushing the front suspension. i need some help on this one, i need to get it done this weekend cause school starts again next week.....thanks. Tim240z
Can you be a little more specific on which bolt....maybe I'm just retarded but I can't tell from you post. You must have some pretty cheap sockets if they are breaking. Usually the bolt will strip or break first. Have you tried penetrating oil (wd40 or the like)? Try squirting it regularly over a few hours then let it sit for a few hours and try again. If that doesn't work, go to the store and get a nut splitter and break it apart and replace it...again I'm not sure which bolt it is so this may not be possible. Guest AlsoRanFPrepared
Generally speaking bolts are cheap. Usually much cheaper than impact sockets. Considering that this bolt is likely not going to be useful once it is out I would recommend taking a good grinder or cutoff tool and removing it that way. Since we do not know where the bolt is you may or may not be able to grind it off. Once removed out you can always drill out whats left (carefully!) and run a tap through it to make sure that what the bolt was threaded into is in good shape. -Mark
Guest Anonymous
If you are trying to remove the large control arm bolt and nut it is one strong nut with fine threads . Like Tim said a little penetrating fluid applied liberally over a period of time or take it out surgically. I would not replace this bolt and nut with anything but top flight hardware.
