Is that done for higher compression or something? It would be hard to weld everything evenly to have the compression the same in every cylinder. NCchris Posted June 10, 2007 Share Posted June 10, 2007 Welding combustion chambers was done quite a bit back in the day to reshape combustion chamber profile, modify squish, adjust compression ratio on race engines. The "How to Modify Datsun & Nissan OHC Engines" book touches on this. Welding can also be used for repair. Compared to some of the works of art that appear on yahoo japan this one wouldn't even get the job of janitor at an art gallery! And I agree with you rob, it's not the prettiest mod. Yahoo japan usually has some high quality parts. Administrators BRAAP Posted June 10, 2007 Administrators Share Posted June 10, 2007 Functionally, that weld job is fine, granted, cleaning the area to be welded prior, such as bead blasting woud be prudent. The welds on this particular head pictured below looked about the same prior to us reshaping the chambers and decking the head, though we bead blasted the head prior to welding. The only real difference between this one and the Japanses head in the ad is this head had more material added around the spark bolt boss.
