ZR8ED
I am having some trouble wrapping my head around this concept of intercooler efficiency. Regardless of my engine mods here is my senario. I ran a large volvo intercooler on my modded VG30ET. I dynoed with 300RWHP and 350 ft/lbs. I did it with 16psi of boost. I removed the volvo intercooler. I installed a very nice bar and plate aluminum i/c. I can no longer run 12psi of boost without going lean. There has been no other mods. Is this possible? Was that volvo intercooler that bad? Do i need less boost to make the same kind of power? This is getting me confusing. Help. Scott.
proxlamus©
have you checked your fuel injectors or fuel pressure?! The injectors may be clogged.. or the fuel pump may be going or a bad fuel filter. a volvo intercooler is terrible for efficiency.. im shocked that your aluminum one hasnt helped. It seems to me that something is wrong with the fuel system... not just the intercooler. Have you monitered the air temps before or after the intercooler?! think about it this way.. 16psi of HOT air would be close to 12psi of COLD air. This could be the problem.. the Volvo intercooler was awful at cooling and the new intercooler is SO efficient in cooling that you can run less boost and create the same power. myplasticegg
you're flowing more air, causing you to lean out faster...

So, if you just want to make the same power as before, you will be able to run less boost. OR...run the same boost as before and add more fuel and make more power.
