V8_DatZun
I have a 383 stroker with the following specs. I am just wondering if possibly a turbo could be added with little mods to my setup... the cam is probably too big.. im just starting to read up on turbo setups etc... just wanting to know what to expect to change later if i do add turbo or Twin turbo. also, i plan on flipping a set of manifolds i have upside down doing the twin turbo setup that way... any suggestions on the amount of boost i can run with the hypers, and the cast crank? right now (according to an engine builder that input all my stats) i should be right around 375-400 hp so the crank doesnt worry me yet since its rated to 500... anyway.. any input is appreciated. 2 bolt main 350 block stock heads (cant remember casting number but machinist said they were good flowing heads) that were ported and polished. 2.02" intake 1.60" exh h-11 tool springs rated to .600 lift 1.6 ratio rockers Comp Cams: XE284H-10 .507 intake/.510 exhaust duration @ .050 intake 240/Exhaust 245 lsa 110.0 Keith Black Hypers the silv-o-lite brand flat top speed pro plasma-moly-coated rings Eagle crank (cast rated to 500hp) Eagle i-beam rods 5.7" Edelbrock performer rpm
280zwitha383
Do you know what your compression is supposed to be? I would think it's probably too high to boost on pump gas. Maybe 5psi. Probably not worth the effort unless you swap pistons and cam.
Turbo Meister
any suggestions on the amount of boost i can run with the hypers Not Much. Flat tops are probably over 10:1 CR in a 383. Long ago my 383 quickly burned up a "forged piston" at that CR with 10 psi boost and 100 octane race fuel. 8.5 CR dished pistons and 17 psi followed. lbhsbZ
Hey Turbo, have you ever thought of running that thing on alcohol.... For some reason Alcohol gives me a hard on....something about being able to run a 13:1+ C/R with tons of boost.... I'm almost bored with the 500ft/lb I'm putting down n/a...and I haven't even had it on the track yet. Maybe a turbo setup is in my future....with alcohol. 280zwitha383
Dude, you JUST got that thing running! You're a sick man.
lbhsbZ
Yeah....but..... OK, the first time I got my foot in it, it was fun. Now I'm bored. I put some gears in it on Saturday....got rid of the 3.54s and went to 3.90s....and then the first time I put my foot in it, it was fun...but now....I'm bored again. Need.....more.....power. Or maybe I should just get rid of the 315/35/17 race rubber and then it'll feel faster. I dunno, its still kinda slowish....or atleast it could be faster. If I can get traction in 3rd, I need more ponies. I have a 13:1 383 on the stand right now...I hope that satisfies me for more than 2 passes. Turbo Meister
Hey Turbo, have you ever thought of running that thing on alcohol.... Yes, but I switch between regular unleaded for the street and race fuel at the track. Alcohol requires double the fuel so it would be more work unless I also run alcohol on the street......but it sure would cool the boost.
