Alignment questions

Recommended Posts

any One have any tricks with adjusting the front wheel toe in / toe out. My car was extremely lowered with two possible three blown struts and Looks to be cut factory springs (prev. owner). I ended up changing the suspension today ( what a pain in the) I have Eibach pro kit springs that lowers from factory one inch (Basically raised the car 2") Tokico Illumina's on all four corners, now. Now everything feels funny.

Any information would be appreciated

Thanks

Ron

Ron,

Lowering the car will likely cause toe out. Best to get it aligned properly at a shop, but you could string the car (a piece of tube at the front and rear of the car with string running along each side of the car from tube to tube). This way you can measure from the rear of the front rim to the string and from the front of the rim to the string to get a basic toe measurement. Obviously the string must be equadistant from the left and right sides of the car.

Hope this makes sense.

Tim

Considering all the previous suspension misapplications... Have the car professionally re-aligned. I do not know what "feels funny" means? Nate and I lowered a Vello Rossa about 4 inches with coil overs and now it looks knock kneed due to excessive camber but it corners great with a little bumpsteer. The car now needs to have the lower control arm moved up 3/4's of an inch to correct the camber. I made up a telescoping rod to do toe alignment on Datsun 620 pickups. Making sure that the ride height was correct, I placed the rod on the inside rear middle of the wheels and locked the rod in place. Then placed it on the front middle of the the same wheels which should have been about 1/16 inch closer than the first measurement on the rear of the wheels. I adjusted the single tie rod to get this 1/16 difference from the back to the front of the wheels. Smaller distance on the front. The Zee will have two separate tie rods to adjust. I also found that I could also adjust the tie rod to get proper toe in the steering by driving down the road until I made enough stop and go adjustments to the tie rod for the steering wheel to run straight by going in a straight line to make the adjustments. When the steering wheel is straight then the toe in should be correct. This worked great for adjusting toe in but do not try this in heavy traffic LOL
