Breeze77z
Sorry for my laziness, but i didn't even do a search for this one because i didn't know what to search for... i've been told i over think things, but i was thinking...if i were to weld on frame rail re-enforcers, or other parts i couldn't access both sides of after the fact, how do i rust proof the new metal? i first thought, well i'll pre-paint them, but then i know welding will just burn the paint off again. rambling now, sorry, anyway, i'm lost as to how to prevent new rust Please enlighten me thanks. Guest Anonymous
I think thats been wrestled with a few times on here with varying degree's of successful. The short answer, after its welded, I think it was mentioned to work a long pointy sprayer into the frame rail via a small access hole and try to deluge the area with like por 15. That said, metal rusts as we know, cars are made of metal as we know, so therefore cars will rust. All we can do in the end is try and slow it down and stop its spread when we see it coming. We can't stop it ever, not gonna happen, ever. Locate what causes the part to rust and 9 times out of 10 it'll be a factory weep hole that gets plugged and doesn't do its job anymore. Make sure you don't have any leaky weatherstrip and that the weep holes are all open and theres no reason why your new repairs should'nt last the thirty or more years these cars have seen already. (longer than most of us will ever own them). Good luck with it. Regards, Lone
