hedcasedime
Over the weekend, I finally got all my parts together for my brake swap onto my dime. I'm using the 83' 280zx calipers and standard brake pads. My question pertains to the "disc brake hardware kit" that came with the calipers. I cannot figure out where the hell to put these damn metal clips! Heres a link to an image of the part for reference: http://info.rockauto.com/getimage/getimage.php?imageurl=http%3A//info.rockauto.com/BeckArnley/0840925.jpg Anyway, maybe it's right in front of my eyes, but I can't figure out what the hell these are for, or where they go. Any help or pictures of assembled calipers would really help. Thanks!

hedcasedime
This diagram is very different from what my caliper setup looks like. These are the parts I'm dealing with: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/getimage.php?imageurl=http%3A//www.cardone.com/Imagesftp/19/19154-01.jpg I've got the other part of the caliper as well which bolts onto the strut, as well as two brake pads. that's all. nbesheer
Okay the parts that you are looking at are the 280zx front brakes,a dn the parts he showed are 280zx rear brakes. I couldn't explain in words, so I had to draw a picture but I'm on lunch so I had to hurry, this is there they go. sorry for the Picasso the clips go on top of the pads and kinda wedge into the caliper This is a quick picture i took with my camera phone it sucks, but might be of some help. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/snsforums/morebrake.jpg
hedcasedime
ha, thanks for the diagram. So, It looks like there's some kind of a keep that those clips attach to on each end as well? Just out of curiousity, what do these clips even do anyway?
spotfitz
Yours look more like this, but these are for '79-'81 http://autozone.com/images/cds/gif/large/0900823d801d27f1.gif I don't see the same clips either. Sorry I couldn't help. EDIT; Just goes to show how much I don't know about the '79 thats been sitting in my driveway for acouple years now. This is the right diagram for the FRONT brakes. http://autozone.com/images/cds/gif/large/0900823d801d267e.gif
hedcasedime
perfect- that's exactly what I was looking for. What exactly do the shims and the clips on the top do?
nbesheer
I believe that they keep the pads from rattling, or they keep them in place. But those are the same brakes I have up front on my 83 280zx.
