Guest SpudZ
I need help checking for a bent strut housing. I have way to much camber on the front of my car, so much that I have worn out the tires. I was told it could be either two things. First one is a bent strut housing the other was a bent spindle. How do I check for this ? Any other ideas would help. I am just getting ready to set up the suspension for auotcrossing and if the strut hosuing is messed up I will need to locate another or use my 280 set. I will try and get a picture of what it looks like online tomorrow. Thanks
johnc
You'll find out when you try to remove the insert. You can also place a good straight-edge vertically against the tube and check 4 places around the circumference.
Guest SpudZ
Thanks John !! I have a machinist's straight edge in my tool box. I guess I will find out when I try to pull the inserts. I was hoping I could check it from the outside
Trevor
I think you can check it from the outside as well. If you machinist's rule is too long, try a piece of string, pulled tight, it will show high or low spots if the tube is bent. The spindle is a pretty beefy casting and I'd be surprised if that was bent, but it may be bent right at the joint of the spindle and strut tube. That would be hard to determine without dis-assembly -- and you need to know what the camber angle of a good straight spindle.
Guest SpudZ
After further examination I am going to rule out a bent housing or spindle. It appears that it might be the bushings and ball joints. The underside of ths car is just plain tired. I will double check the housings before I section them for the coil overs.
