DREW RBZ
Hi guys...forgive my ignorance but is the RB26 motor an "interference motor"?
Evan Purple240zt
I know the 20/25 are. I dont think the 26 would be different. Evan

DREW RBZ
Thanks fellas...So if this is an interference motor my question is this. If the timing was set incorrectly would it be possible to damage valves etc during cranking of the motor. The motor has not run but has been cranked. It sounded like the timing was out however I did not hear any serious noise (metal on metal).
Evan Purple240zt
yeah its possible. However, I would guess that if the interference was severe the motor would have bound up. Easiest way to tell is to reset timing properly and do a leakdown or compression test to verify you didn't bend a valve. Evan
Evan Purple240zt
whats an interferrence motor? An interference motor is a problem if you break a timing belt. Pistons will crash into the valves. Some motors are not like this, but it seems to me that most are interference type. Evan
DREW RBZ
Thanks fellas...much appreciated. I dont think there is any damage but will be doing a compression check tonight.
RB26powered74zcar
Its all ways a good practice to spin any motor over w/o the spark plugs, by hand, before trying to start it up.
