Crazy eyes
Ok first off my name is Mike im not really new to the import or domestic scene,I own a s13 240sx,and a 87 gt,the s13 has a blown motor and the mustang is wrecked in the back,so after thinking and doing some research to see if anyone has ever done this swap before I came to the conclusion that it might be a swap i'd like to try,and I know this is a Z board but it really is the only forum I found with v8 import hybrid cars. I know they sell mounts for the z chassis but I could not find mounts for the s chassis,I saw someone on here putting a 302 in an s12 and I know there pretty similar,so if anyone could give me any advice on maybe where I can get these mounts or if im going to have to make them, also not sure about the oil pan,I know the 302 is rear sump and the ka is front sump so i'm not about that maybe a 351w oilpan. If anyone has any advice please feel free to guide me in the right direction. Trevor
Welcome Mike. FORD 302 and 351W oil pans are not interchangeable - due to the block size. Both come in front sump or rear sump style, depending on the chassis. For example '64-'78 Mustang V8s have a front sump pan, '79-'95 Mustang V8s have a rear sump pan. You should be able to get a stock (or aftermarket) front sump pan for your '87 302. One issue is the dipstick location - it's all relative to the sump: ... you'll need to relocate your oil dipstick from the side of the block to the front timing chain cover. First remove the old dipstick and discard. I used a wooden dowel to seal off the old hole. ...The dowel absorbs hot oil and seals off the hole. The dipstick must be relocated to the front of the motor....the boss exists in the timing chain cover. A drill bit sized to the oil dipstick diameter is used to drill out the boss and the oil pan compartment. ... After first drilling a 1/4" pilot hole, step up to the correct diameter bit. Care must be taken to ensure you establish the correct angle so the dipstick tube can extend up between the alternator and the head. more info and photos here: http://midnightdsigns.com/Mustang/Engine.htm I believe that the 200SX, 240SX, Maxima, and Infinity M30 use a Front sump pan while I know the '70-'89 Zs use a rear sump, so Nissan built them both ways as well.... Let us know if you find any off-the-shelf, pre-made mounts for this engine/chassis combination. My guess is there is no such thing - until you pay $omeone to make it or or make it yourself. Crazy eyes
Thanks man,I wasn't sure if the pans were interchangable or not,I know alot of the stuff is,I was pretty sure I was going to have make custom mounts. I looked for awhile to see if they made kits for 302's but couldn't find any,I know they make them for all gen rx-7's though. Ohwell time for some custom mounts.
