SBC_400
I found a guy selling a few sets of eibock springs. they are all 2.5 in id. he has 200lbs, 225 lbs, and 250 lbs. they are 8 in long, and he says they will fit a datsun. I have a 71 240 with a sbc 400 with alluminum heads. which spring rate would be the best?
Guest Anonymous
Scott, 8 inches is probably too short and 10 inches seems to be the ideal height for the Z. At 8 inches you would probaly need over (bone shattering) 300 pound springs to keep from bottoming out the struts. The # rate is close in the 200 pound range for ten inch with about a 15 to 25 # rate differnce from front to rear with less in front Check with suspension experts Ross C or SCCA Mike about the practicality of 8 inches for the street. I may have seen the same springs and they look new because..... maybe a little used because of beingimpractical.
jt1
I've got 250's all the way around on mine, but they are 10"'s. The ride is tight but not teeth chipping. I agree with TZ, to use 8" springs I think you need to be at about 300# to keep from bottoming out. Check Pete Paraska's page out, I think he is using 8" 300# springs. Guest Anonymous
Are these 2.5 " inside diameter springs replacing the stock springs? Can you do this without doing the adjustable coil over alteration to the strut? Brian
Guest Anonymous
Brian, little confused by the question. The 10 X 2.5 inch spring is an ideal replacement size beacause its base rests upon the original spring perch's welding bead after the original sheet metal perch is temoved. Ross C offers an excellant flat large washer for this purpose to set the threaded coilover sleeve and adjusting nut on and Mike SCCA recomends a small section of pipe welded around the bead. For larger tire clearance the original spring perch should be removed
Guest Anonymous
Does anything need to be done to the upper spring support? Brian
Guest Anonymous
An aluminum top hat to fit on top of the springs and the strut shaft to pass thru. The 3 bolt strut mount insulator sets upon the after market aluminum top hat that can be supplied by Ross C or Mike/SCCA. The after narket top hat and OEM mount insulator should be seperated with a large flat washer between them
