zkoresko
I've searched and I can't believe I can't find this type of question anywhere, so I must be blind. Forgive me... I have decided to go with a carburated chevy 350 in my 71 240Z. I am not sure if I should install a 5-speed in the car or a 700R4. I do enjoy driving a manual car, BUT.. I am not very good at it. I slip the clutch and I bang the gear box pretty hard (horrible habit, but I can't seem to stop) I currently run my 77 280Z (built L28 5-Speed) in 6 to 8 autocross events per year and drive it 1-2 days a week to work. My goal was to enter more events with the 240 when it's done including a few trips to a road course. Does anyone think the 700R4 is a good idea for me? Has anyone ran a Z with a 700R4 in an autocross? If so, what was the verdict?

I think if it is going to see more drag race use the auto is the way to go but for auto x and fun factor manual is the way to go. I have built 2 v8 powered 240z both with the 700r4 with great results and one fc rx7 with a ls1 6-speed combo. The 6-speed was more fun on a daily basis but at the track the auto was easier and more consistent.
happynukes
you will never miss a gear in a auto plus they are cheaper i have been asking this question frequently so scroll down and look for my post tons of info there. also the big question is whats your highest amount of out put you plan on building with this engine torque plays a big key in choosing a manual if your going higher then 500ftlbs then get a richomnd 6speed cost is a little over 3k i'm married and just bought a house so i'm going with the 700r4 i think my 383 should be pushing over 500ftlbs. hope this helps and the senior guys on my post were super helpful i reccomend reading it highly good luck
