New turbo car, new problem

I just bought a 83zxt in SC. I plan on swapping it into my 73 240z.

The guy i bought it from said he replaced the fuel pump (said it was $300+) when I looked it was outside the tank and was leaking fuel. (this was after the problem listed below)

I got it started after changing out the old gas and filled it up with 97octane and began the drive home. It started backfire and it ran worse and worse as I went down the highway. Boost levels looked fine, but then it was shooting flames out the back and caught my bumper on fire! With the leak of fuel i didnt know about it would have made a nice bomb !!!

Its in my driveway now, and I want to get it running right before I begin the swap. so what should I take a closer look at other than the fuel pump? btw..all I know is what im learning by working on this car, i dont know much. my friend says it could be the catalytic converter that made it run worse.
