Guest mphillips4739
'mphilips4739' you missed the point. If a sportbike rider has damaged his tank in a 'get-off', the gas lid is almost NEVER damaged, therefore not replaced [especially due to the cost]. It is extremely rare to see a dented tank being sold WITH the gas lid & key. The original poster appears to be looking more at the 'Cobra' or Ferrari type, so it is a bit of a mute point. The first on in DavyZ's post is REALLY COOL; but, I bet that it costs some serious dollars! Not rying to get into a @!#ing match here, but what I was saying was to get the entire tank etc from someone parting out the bike. Also, I got a tank with a small scratch with the lid for $100 off ebay. More, I am sure, than you would want to spend on this conversion, but it came with the gas cap because the guy didn't have the key. I went to the local lock smith and had the latch opened (he did it for free because I was getting an ignition key made). I then turned around and sold that cap (because it wasn't keyed the same as my bike) for $20.00. If you find a recycler, even on ebay, they will sell damaged stuff cheap a lot of the times. I do agree that a cap will pretty much never get damaged in a wreck, just because of how they sit in/on the tank.

Guest mphillips4739
If you want to take it to a 'personal level' as indicated in your post, bring it Off Thread..... My point was exactly the opposite. I din't want to be insulting. I was just trying to make a point. That is why I quoted and said I wasn't trying to get into a .... match. Sorry for any misunderstanding. Maybe motorcycle parts are cheaper in the south? Mike
