rudypoochris
I ordered a set of Hawk HP+ pads and they don't seem to fit my superlights. They pop right in, but what I believe is called the "bridgebolt" on the caliper does not fit through the hole on the pad. I investigated more and it appears there are two types of Superlites, the forged version and the Superlite "II". In anycase, the pads fit right in and it seems like I can bore the hole larger. Is this adviseable or should I just grind the tab off completely? Thanks! Here is the pad in question, the first uses the bolt to hold the pad in place, the second does not. Both of them seem to have exactly the same dimensions: Thanks guys!
jt1
Grind the tab off completely, then continue grinding until you have a notch like the second drawing. The pads with the hole are for the older Superlights that used the cotter key to retain the pads. I don't know about Hawk, but PF doesn't make pads for the bridgebolt calipers. I have to grind every set I use. It's not bad and only takes a few minutes. The best method is to LIGHTLY clamp the pad to the bench/table/etc, then use a side grinder to cut off the tab and make the notch. You don't want the pad to drag on the bridgebolt, so if the notch is a little too big that's OK. Something like 1/16" clearance would be fine. rudypoochris
Thanks! Lastly this is a stupid question I couldn't easily find an answer to.... Am I supposed to put some kind of shims or anti-squeal behind the pad if I want them to be street friendly? Or does the noise mainly come from the compound itself? Thanks! jt1
I don't have any experience with the HP+, so I don't know if anti squeal measures will help or not. I don't think they would hurt anything, so you could try and see. My PF 01's squeal till they get warm. John
