sludged brake lines

My 77 z sat for a year without my attention. cry2.gif I recently opened up the master cylinder and noticed that the fluid was almost gone and what was left on the bottom was a thick sludge. I tried just filling it back up and pumping the brakes but they remained soft. There was no noticable puddles on the ground, or fluid leaking anywhere.

So where did my old fluid go while the car sat? What should I do next.

I have the same problem with my car, and after I brought it to the shop to have the engine looked at, they said the sludge was the master cylinder seals dissolving into the brake fluid. Nasty stuff. They say you can try to bleed that crap out after mixing in fresh fluid to dilute it. But they thought I'd probably need all new master cylinder, at the very least. nono.gif

fmad.gif lucky you! I don't want to buy a new master cylinder... Stupid money. Anyone think I might be able to flush that crap out with some compressed air and a brake bleeder kit?
