I'm looking at getting an 83 280ZX with a blow turbo motor and was wondering if the transmission from this car (5spd manuel) would work on a SBC with a modified bell housing. And does any one sell a bell housing for that mod?

Thanks, JD

This has been discussed a plethora of times. Basically, it's cheaper and easier to get a T-5 from a camaro rather than spend the money on the adapter plate for the datsun 5 speed which will likely grenade under the torque of a V8. Even though some of the ZXT transmissions were actually T-5s, they had weaker internals similar to the S-10's tranny. So short story long, yes but it's not worth it.

No problem and welcome to HybridZ, by the way.

If you have the space for it I'd suggest buying a whole running donor car (camaro, firebird etc) so you can steal all the nickel and dime stuff from that rather than paying and waiting for Jegs or summit to get you parts. If you want to gain some of the money back and have the patience for it you could part out the stuff you don't use (body panels, trim, interior stuff).

I have another question. We have mustangs out the wazzo around here and didnt know if the Ford T-5 (Borge Warner) from one of those would work with the adapter bell housing? How do they fit and how do they compare to the GM T-5. Also I can get an S10 five speed for a decent price, how would that work out? (its off of a 4.0L)

Search and there a couple threads about switching a ford t5 to chevy. Here's one: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=124042&highlight=ford+t-5

If you're going to last long here on HybridZ you're going to have to get acquainted with the search feature. Answers to both your questions have been discussed before.
