Need some quickie help running MS I for Fuel-only on L28ET

Hey guys, I've got an appointment at my local dyno in less than a week and I'm still trying to get my '82 280ZX Turbo up and running to at least get there. As time is short, I figure I'll have MS only control the fuel for now, with the original ECU controlling everything else (ie spark) as normal.

Here's the relevant bits of my setup:

Megasquirt I V3.0

GM coolant/IAT sensors for the MS

Innovate LC1 wideband O2

GM boost control control solenoid for use with MS

Garrett GT35R turbo (compressor: 82mm wheel, 84 trim, .70 AR)

RC Engineering 370cc low impedance injectors on Pallnet fuel rail

small intercooler

Crane ignition and coil

1. If the original ECU is no longer controlling the fuel, do I still need to have the AFM installed? From reading the Hayne's manual description, I get the impression the AFM is only there to send signals for purposes of controlling the fuel. So if the AFM isn't there, does it affect spark timing and/or emissions functions that the original ECU is still responsible for?

2. If I'm controlling fuel-only, do I still need to set the timing as outlined in the MSS/MSnS installation guide sticky (where it talks about turning the crankshaft to TDC and various other degrees)?

3. I'm having a little confusion about the firmware and how it relates to Megatune. I was originally under the impression Megatune was the firmware. If I get the most "advanced" firmware ("MSnS-E"?) will I be forced to set up spark timing, or would I need to put in some settings to tell it not to bother trying to fire the coil? What version of MSnS-E would you guys suggest is appropriate for my intention of Fuel-only, and the boost control solenoid?

4. I still can't find a 240SX TPS in my local junkyards. If I'm having MS control fuel-only, is it still necessary I get my hands on a new TPS? And with the 240SX TPS, I've seen that it has a 2nd plug similar to the 280ZX's TPS plug. Will that plug give off the same "on-or-off-only" type of output signal for the stock 280ZXT ECU?

I'd like to request some fuel/setup settings or .msq file to use, to allow me to drive it to the dyno. But per the sticky about Map Sharing, I'll start a new thread for that (unless someone sees this first and posts here).

Thanks for the help, guys! ^_^

Yeah, I know it's really easy to hook up the wiring to control spark. It's the setup and programming part of it that puts me off it for now. I'm having a hard enough time with just understanding half the variable fields and how to get the firmware on there as it is. ^^ If someone's got ALL the spark settings I need that match my setup already, I'd certainly consider using it. But even then, from the aforementioned Sticky, I'd still have to play with setting the timing by messing around with the crank and distributor. And I just don't have time to fiddle with that. So I think it might be best not to add complication just yet until I've made sure I can at least get the fuel part running. The spark part can always be easily wired in later.

have you gone and looked through all the maps that people have posted?? i have a feeling there is one that is close enough. i have one that i think should work for ya to get ya running if not.. well its not mine i got it from someone else as a starting point but you will still have to tune

Yeah, I looked at the maps sticky, and last poster (niner11) had a pretty close setup, but he's using MS II instead.
