hey guys, great site. I've read alot to keep inspired. You guys really do some nice builds.

I've had my 240z since '96 or so, back then I collected a lot of parts to convert it to a chevy supercharged 383. I still have all the parts but the conversion isn't quite as interesting as it was back then. I'm very interested in the northstar conversion and have read all the posts on this site (and others) about it. Again, thanks for all the great content.

I want to use this post/thread to collect all the info I've found and place them all in one spot for myself and anyone else who wants to go down this path. Also, please feel free to add, critique, or bash.

The northstar conversion is attractive to me because of the light weight v8, double overhead cams, the rareness of the conversion and the cheapness of used northstar engines (they're going for around $500 on ebay)

major components needed for the conversion:

The rest of the components should be the same as with any other conversion.

Odds and ends:

  • intake needs to be turned 180 degrees
  • water pump needs to be relocated
  • engine wieght: 403 bare, no accessories
  • engine dimensions: 28"W, 26"H, 31"L
  • 275/300 hp 400 ft/lbs

  • '7730 prom can be (and may need to be) further modded with cheap equipment and free software http://forum.tunerpro.net/
  • engine doesn't seem to be rebuildable

  • chrfab offers cams to make 400 hp
