Guest z-UgOxSlaViaN-z
I am highly considering a mild restoration for my 75 280z. If and when I make the decision to pursue this, at that point there will be no turning back for me. I am trying to create an accurate outline of expenses, for all major sections that this restoration would include. Before I make my final decision, I would like to have a complete price maximum outline for each section so that I can refer to it when it comes time to purchase. To keep me on budget and such. With that being said... I find myself stuck on the engine portion of this make-over. To be extremely honest, I don't really know a whole lot about engines in general. Sizes, numbers that correspond with each engine and what those numbers mean, I just really don't understand it. However, I do know that I LOVE my 280 and would like to keep it for as long as I possibly can. Though, for a while now it has been teetering on the edge of being sold (due to fear of getting myself in over my head with the idea of a restoration) or a restoration. This is where I need your help! If I commit to this, I want to improve (IMO) on all aspects of the restoration, like that of the engine. The stock engine IS a great engine but I am looking to update it. I need some help on deciding what engine I could/should put into my car to achieve more HP, torque, etc. Basically just an over all engine upgrade. There is a budget that I need to stay within so I am thinking it would need to be somewhere in between $1000.00 - 3999.00 range. Say that if $3999.00 is really close to the next better engine, but not quite there, please go ahead and include the next one too. I might be able to work something out so I can expand on the $3000.00+. I have seen videos of Z's with the Infiniti Q45 engine to V6 Turbos to Supercharged V8's and I just don't know which rout to take. I will appreciate any and all suggestions given! Thank you for taking the time to read. I already do appreciate it! Since I am almost positive that there has already been a thread created that would have very similar information, if not all the information that I am looking for, would someone just reply with a link to direct me to that place? Please keep in mind that I don't know much about any engine so the tech talk is kinda over my head... Sorry! I would be very grateful though! Thank you - Matt
sweetleaf
It all depends on how you want it to drive and how much power you're looking for. On the cheap side, I would go L28et. If you want a little more the RB and LS has been done enough times, and is well documented.
