rvandivort
Hi! Putting new head gasket on this engine..I noticed the cam gear and chain markings were off one link in the retard mode. I have checked three different manuals..and they are straight up. Have seen some discussions on adjustable cam timing--but, think I will go staight here..and go now for the ordeal of pulling the front cover and making sure the bottom gear is properly lined up. It`s out of the car..so, no big deal. Otherwise, the 95k engine is very clean with a little coking in the oil pan and some carbon build up in the upper end---a small amount of Marvel Mystery oil took care of that.Any ideas on this? Thanks Again, Roger
rvandivort
Hi! Got the cover off. That tensioner adjuster is strong! Used the tool from the Clymer and Haynes manuals--made My own. The thing still slipped. The Chilton manual had a different tool to fabricate--but warned that the tensioner may readjust..and it did! So, I couldn`t get enough out of the chain to get it together(top and bottom).Thank God it`s out of the car!Tomorrow, Maybe pull the adjuster mechanism and go from there. The advance /retard issue I raised at the beginning is not too much relevant..it`s such a small amount.
