Driving with rot. 1978 280Z 2+2

Recommended Posts

Alright, here's the deal....

My 78 Z has rotted floors and rotted framerails. The passenger side is absolutely atrocious compared to the driver's side, but point is they're both rotted pretty bad.

Here's my dilemma. Now that I've got it running, I need to get it out of my workplace and to my parents' house to get started on the rot/rust repair, and I would like to register it (so I i don't have to keep relying on tow truck to move it) so I can drive it, but I do not want to risk tweaking the body.

Your thoughts?

Are the seats safely secured? I have a hard time believing that you will do much more or any tweaking as long as you drive it lightly.

The only difference in moving it under its own power vs. towing is the torque from the motor on the chassis. If anything, Id think tying it down for towing would but more stress on the body.

Again, just drive it carefully.
