vspec
Ok i have an 82 280zxt,i have to prime it like 3 times to start it,when it starts it does nothing but sputter and backfires from the exhaust and intake, and if i hold the gas to the floor it won't go above 1k rpm and if i back off to about 1/4 throttle it will sometimes rev to 4k rpm and will sound like it is running normal, also after awhile the exhaust will glow red hot. i replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the fuel injectors and fuel rail. xenonxiii
sounds like the timing might be off?
ZXT_bean
sounds like the timing is way off!! sounds like the timing tensioner came loose. maybe skipped a few teeth along the way.. go get a timing light and see where its set at. either that, or your maf sensor is way outa wack, it thinks its getting a ton of air and is dumping in tons of fuel. start simple, check the tiiming and go from there.. theres a saying i learned while working at a shop in texas.... K. I. S. S. Keep It Stupid Simple, and you will most likely find ur answer. and just as a pro caution, change ur oil, you have no idea how much fuel has made it into that crankcase. thats my .02, good luck. vspec
yeah i'll have to try the ignition module because i pulled the spark plugs and they don't look like there all firing, some are soaked in fuel.
