Challenger
http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PSDC01C/23-4042 Found these on MSA's website, my question is will these work on my 78 2+2? From what I know theyll fit but will the rates be good for a 2+2? Im want to lower it the inch these do and would like a stiffer spring for autoX... These are priced to sell so Id like to pick them up now when their cheap. Also any general comments on 2+2 setups would be helpful, 2+2 doesnt register on the searches. 280Z Turbo
I have a Tokico suspension kit on my car that I bought on eBay. They seem to work fine.
emaster
I have a 78 280z 2+2 and I am thinking about doing a couple things on it 1. changing drum brakes to disc 2. put on 240z bumpers 3. making it so that the suspension on each wheel on the back is independent. So does anyone know how to make that last one happen, or any guides I can follow to help me with that?
Challenger
Did your kit lower the car? Is it pretty stable? Have a link to what you bought.
280Z Turbo
I got the HP's, though I wish I would have gotten the Illuminas. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOKICO-ILLUMINA-SHOCKS-SPRINGS-260Z-280Z-75-78_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33590QQihZ021QQitemZ310063367436QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOKICO-HP-SHOCKS-SPRINGS-NISSAN-260Z-280Z-75-78_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33590QQihZ008QQitemZ180259907962QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW The car is stable and the ride is okay. I had it at the track a couple of times and it's very forgiving. It does lower the car. I can't remember how much, but it's not excessive. 280Z Turbo
I have a 78 280z 2+2 and I am thinking about 3. making it so that the suspension on each wheel on the back is independent. Huh?
Challenger
I was thinking the same thing.... ^^
jay28
I have those exact same springs on my 2+2, they work great, car lowered by about 1 1/2". the ride is a little bumpy on the back roads where I live but in town its fine. http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh183/datsun-jay/?action=view¤t=myz006-2.jpg http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh183/datsun-jay/?action=view¤t=myz009.jpg
Challenger
Hey thanks I forgot to ask you. I had seen your car and really liked the stance (also makes me want to zg my car ). Ill keep doing some looking to see what I find...
Challenger
So Jay did you have the Illuminas or the HP's? Im almost ready to start getting some of the suspension parts.
johnc
The Eibach and the Tokico lowering springs work fine on the 2+2 body style. Tokico and Eibach both have had caveats about using these springs on the 2+2 because of the additional weight from the two backseat passengers. Challenger
Thanks, as of now my car is only about 75 lbs heavier than the coupe. I also wont be taking passengers around that often, esspecially autoxing or track days. So would I be safe to get springs meant for the coupe? MSA has a set on sale for nearly half off, if I can make those work Id get them. Ill get a link. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PSDC01C/23-4041 Edit- Haha forgot I already posted that link. That was the point of the thread.
johnc
Since it appears that no one sells springs specifically for the 2+2, I guess you'll have to settle for coupe springs. FYI... the Tokico spring rates are 175F (working) and 200R for the 280Z. I don't know what the rates are for the Eibachs.
Challenger
So would it be safe to buy the eibachs from MSA and then a set of struts off ebay? Or should I look at getting the whole set off ebay? From what the bay auction says there designed to work together (springs/struts) but if the eibachs will work as well I could save some money. Thanks
johnc
That's fine. You could always buy the struts from me... (shameless plug).
Challenger
Well Im going to go ahead and go throught the suspension before I license and insure it and get it on the road. Ill probably get the HP's at the end of the week and start tearing into next week. Sadly I leave in two weeks so I wont get to work on it for those 2 weeks.
