Turbo Distributor in N/A 2.8L ('73 240Z)?

First, I apologize to admin and veterans if this has been covered.

After an extensive search, trying different keywords,

I can't seem to find the answer(or I missed it, somehow:cry:).

 

I am about to begin re-building an N42/N42 2.8L, for my 1973 240Z.

 

My question is, I have two distributors in my possession for use.

1) A Turbo Distributor, and applicable drive shaft

2) A Stock dual point Distributor

 

My question is, would it be best to convert the dual point to a modern electronic or magnetic pickup, or to use the turbo Distributor(however that might be wired in)?

I won't be using any after market ignitions/parts for now, save an accel super coil,

and some very high quality wires.

 

I am weighing cost and ease of installation with performance.

 

Both are in very good shape, no play in bearings.

 

Please help, wise gurus!

The turbo distributor requires the turbo oil pump shaft. If you were going fuel injection with Megasquirt, and you wanted timing control, then I would use the turbo distributor. If you are going carbs, and just want modern ignition, use a 280Z, or early 280ZX distributor (80-81). With the 280Z distributor you can use a GM HEI module or the 280Z one. The ZX distributor has the module mounted on the side of it. You can also put a Pertronix in your 240Z distributor.

The turbo dizzy has no mechanical or vacuum advance. You would need an ECU of sorts to regain that control, whereas the NA dizzy's have this 'feature' built in.

 

If you want timing control use the turbo model. If not, use the NA model.

I have a short runner Mikuni Intake, and a set of 40 PHH Mik's.

 

 

Looks like I have a Turbo dizzy and shaft for sale!
