BAlford
What kind of a rear end is this? We pulled a rear end out of a 1980 parts car and it was a R180. We have another parts car, a 1982 but the rear end is a 3.9 to 1 ratio, so we do not wnat to use it. We took pictures of the rear end of the car that we are driving, a 1982 280ZX 2+2, and it does not look like either of the rear ends in the repair manual. What is this? Please check the pictures on the web page below: http://www.waskomtexas.com/zcar/re_car/rear_end.html You don't need a password, just click OK. Guest Anonymous
I agree with Lone...Ocbaar just bought a 1973 240 Z with this style rear end installed with the CV joints which was reported to be out of a 1982 ZX
BAlford
I checked the manual some more and find that they cal it a tri-pod joint, I think is the term. If I can not find the same type at the salvage, can I switch to the open u-joint rear end? Also is the CV type better?
Guest Anonymous
I hear the CV is stronger and takes to a lowered suspension with less complaint.
Guest greimann
You can't directly replace a CV joint with a u-joint half shaft. The connection at the outer hub is different. The CV joints are stronger. I recommend keeping the setup you have and fixing whatever is wrong.
