jasper Posted March 21, 2009 Share Posted March 21, 2009 (edited) In an effort to overcome the "restrictive" exhaust port design, Buick enthusiast drag racers in the sixties adapted superchargers with a custom camshaft to feed intake air in through the exhaust ports and used the larger intake ports for exhaust outlets. Perhaps this feat of ingenuity, and the unusual appearance of the engine modified in this manner, also intimidated rival racers and added to the Nailhead V8 legend that lives upon this page of US auto history. Careless Posted March 21, 2009 Share Posted March 21, 2009 i take it he's feeding the reversed heads through the supercharger or whatever that is that is probably mounted with an auxiliary shaft to the front damper. weird setup, but from the soot on the tail pipes and the dirt on the chassis, it seems like it's worked a couple of times. Here's a ferrari from 1967 Sure the engine is strange but the fuel tank/bladder scheme is downright scary. Big balls or small brians, the drivers had back then.
