rackolamb1
I'm finished installing an 83 L28ET into my 71 240z and at the point where I'm trying to get it started. I have a question on the ignitor. When I have 12v going to the ignitor, both the positive and negative sides of my coil have 12v. Is this correct? I'm going to try and test the ignitor using the 9v battery trick mentioned by someone else, but thought I'd ask if this is normal. Thanks. GrayZee
the ignitor unit MUST be grounded, when the ecu sends out a + signal the transistor unit creates a connection between that ground and the negative terminal of the ignition coil. The other spade conection is just the 12v+ that goes through the ignitor and to the coil's + terminal. As for getting a + on each side.. not sure but it sounds off.. I have used about 3 or 4 different kinds of ignitors with that system. Nissan ones all seem to work the same even though they might look different. My favorite one is a very small grey one with a 3 pin plug. They can be found on 90+pathfinders, access vans and 240's One wire goes to the ecu, another to the - coil terminal, the third to ground. rackolamb1
Thanks GrayZee, Yeah, the only thing I can think of is that my existing ignitor is passing the 12v signal through to both terminals of the coil. I did a quick search on the other ignitor options you mentioned and the availability on those is much better. I appreciate the tip.
